About this event
Please join us Saturday November 16th from 8:30 AM to noonish in the KBJC terminal building, upstairs in the Flatirons room (same location as previous years, the room was renamed).
Light refreshments will be served. The first half hour is for coffee and social time. Then we’ll have a business meeting featuring reports from our committee chairs on their activities in 2024 and plans for 2025. Paper ballots will be available for those that haven’t voted online in our officer election. We’ll take a break at the conclusion of the business meeting for more socializing and tally the votes. After the break we’ll announce the results of the election, and present our featured speaker Gary Tobey, who will speak about his 188 carrier-based missions as a U.S. Navy fighter pilot over Vietnam.
Gary Tobey is a long-time member of the Colorado Pilots Association where he has headed the Legislative Affairs Committee.
He served as a Naval Aviator from 1964 to 1970. His presentation today focuses on his combat experience over North Vietnam as a carrier-based attack pilot in the years 1966 through 1968.
He welcomes your questions at any time during the presentation. He will touch on aircraft carrier operations, cannon fodder, 188 combat missions, attack tactics, assisting in the rescue of seven downed airmen, helping a helicopter pilot earn the Medal of Honor, the Iron Hand mission, the Pueblo Crisis, the 1968 Tet Offensive, the real origin of Top Gun, POWs and MIAs.
He is a Colonel in the Civil Air Patrol with 40 years of CAP service. He flew single-engine aircraft for 55 years and was inducted into the Colorado Aviation Hall of Fame in 2019. He was in the private practice of law for 45 years. He married Naval Officer Carol Muir in 1969. They have three daughters and four grandchildren.
The meeting is open to members and guests, and we look forward to seeing you.
