Reopen Taylor Flat Airstrip - Utah

About this event

You are invited to take part in a work party at Taylor Flat in Utah starting at 8am on May 9. This is a cooperative effort between the RAF and the UBCP to reopen this historic airstrip for recreational aviation use. The backup date for the event is May 30.

Colorado supporters will be bringing skidsteers to fill in ditches which criss-cross the length of the runway and to excavate a few large rocks from the runway. Volunteers are needed to pick up smaller rocks by hand so they can be moved to mark runway corners and thresholds and be painted for visibility. East of the extended runway, “X”s will be installed and staked down so that pilots will know to not land east of the authorized airstrip. Finally, volunteers are needed to install a UBCP windsock pole and RAF windsock.

Please bring work gloves, sturdy buckets for rocks, and a shovel, hoe or McLeod to remove stubborn rocks.

Best to plan on camping at the airstrip or at the nearby developed campground. Bring your own camping equipment. Arrival at the airstrip the afternoon prior to the work party will ensure an early start on the airstrip work the next morning. It is about 4 hrs to drive to Taylor Flat from Salt Lake, with curvy mountainous roads for the last hour or so. Cell phone service in the area is spotty to none.

Please do not fly to the Taylor Flat airstrip itself. The airstrip is not currently safe for landing. The airstrip is located at 40°53'16.2"N 109°10'27.3"W.

Bridge Hollow Campground is ? mile from the airstrip and has 9 individual campsites and a group campsite. Suitable for RVs. The campsites are available for $10/night on a first-come, first-served basis and you must be present to get a campsite. Pit toilets & picnic tables available at campground.

Please plan to bring your own meals. Bottled water will be available. Consider bringing a fishing license, life vest, and fishing gear for world-class fishing in the Green River, after the airstrip work is done.

No driving of vehicles on airstrip
